Nothing against Pop-tarts, but still

My co-worker read my blog and thought I was picking on her for her choice in Pop-tarts.  That was not my intention and I am a great fan of Pop-tarts, especially the strawberry ones with the frosting!  Pop-tarts are great road trip food!

My point was that with a little prep work, I can grab a breakfast far more satisfying and healthy.

Here's another example.  Before trying to change, I would buy breakfast in the cafeteria here at work.  Normally this would be a bagel sandwich; asiago bagel, fried egg, 3 slices of bacon and a slice of american cheese.  It was satisfying, but high in fat and probably around 400-500 calories.

This morning I had a breakfast burrito.  I pre-chop peppers and onions during the weekend and the night before work, I put a handful in a baggie with some salt and pepper and one tsp of butter.  In another baggie I put some chopped turkey bacon or precooked turkey sausage, and another baggie has about 2 tbsp of shredded cheddar.  I also grab a whole egg and a bowl.  At work I nuke the peppers, onions and meat for a minute, then mix in the egg and cheese and nuke it for another minute.  I wrap it in a taco size tortilla.  It was 315 calories and tastes better than the sandwich I get in the cafeteria.  Including the time spent ordering, waiting for my order and then paying for it, the time spent is the same.

A better, healthier breakfast in the same amount of time with minimal effort.

Stick that on your Pop-tart and toast it!

I am a little disappointed with myself though.  All day I planned on using the treadmill for 30 minutes when I got home, but I blew it off.  When it came time to change into shorts and do it, I opted to put on my warm comfy clothes and sit down and read instead.  This is the biggest thing I have to change about myself!
