I kind of met my exercise goal of working out 3x this week. My nephew came over 3x, meeting his requirement, but last night I started cramping up during the weight lifting portion of my night. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill, but only 3 of the 12 exercises I do for strength. I never cramped up the last time I was exercising regularly but back then I was going to the gym in the morning and I would only eat a piece of fruit on my way to the gym. Last night we had spaghetti before I worked out and I think that was the cause. Even though I did more than half of my workout, I don't feel right about calling this goal complete. I plan on going up to work out on my own on Saturday, and then I'll feel right about calling it complete.
I exceeded my other goal and packed my breakfast and lunch all 5 days this week, even though I could have blown off a day since I packed all 5 days last week as well.
I went over my calorie goal a little yesterday, but not if I count calories burned during exercise so all's good. I finished off Monday's chuck roast at lunch and then had the pasta for dinner. Both those meals average out a little higher than I normally eat and combining them together bumped me up.
Regarding the exercise calories... The site I use to track my food and exercise is Myfitnesspal.com. They have a free app for my android phone and are free to use online. They have an extensive food and exercise database and a lot of good advice can be found there. The site recommends that you should eat back calories burned during exercise and they have the science to back it up but it seems counter-productive to me. It's a topic heavily discussed in their forums and the consensus is that when you have as much to lose as I do, it's not necessary. However eventually I will have to reevaluate my goals and at some point start eating them back. The logic is that you put your body in starvation mode by eating too few calories. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
Here's another post from my old blog dated 08/31/07
Week 11
Well I only made it to the gym 3 days this week, having had an early appointment Monday and taking Thursday off. I don't feel too guilty about missing Thursday though. Typically Tues and Thurs I just do 30 minutes on the treadmill during my lunch break, and while I missed that, I did mow the lawn and walk 1.5 miles to the garage to pick up my truck after it's state inspection. However I did lose another 3 pounds since last week. That is 30 pounds in 11 weeks.
On top of that, we had friends over for a cook out, BBQ chicken with a home made sauce made with Jack Daniels, corn on the cob and an apple/pear coleslaw, recipe courtesy CookingLight.com, a new favorite site. The butter on the corn and the wine with dinner did put me over my calorie limit for the day, but I have been well under all week, so no harm done.
I believe I will celebrate the 30lbs by treating myself to a new muskie lure. Enjoy the holiday weekend!
