You all know what the Treadmill Space-Time Paradox is, right? It's the phenomenon that causes time to slow down as soon as you step on a treadmill. It's a terrible, terrible thing. I've been trying to figure out a way to solve the unsolvable and it's been difficult.
I have a TV above the treadmill, so I've tried movies, television shows and dvds. They help a little, but I still find myself staring at the timer. I've tried reading books or magazines, but I catch myself holding onto the rails too much and still staring at the timer. The other night I tried an audio book. I listen to them all the time on my commute and they really make the time go by when I'm in traffic, so I figured why not? It worked reasonably well, I was able to focus on the story and it seemed that time shifted back to its normal speed for a little bit. The problem is that I don't have anything to look at, so I would still look at the timer. It's either that or look at a closet door.
I started thinking about that figured that there had to be a solution. I Googled "treadmill scenery videos" and sure enough there was. I first found a company that sells virtual walk dvd's. Basically, some dude walked around really cool places with a camcorder and sells them for $10 a pop. Once I saw this, my next stop was You-Tube. Sure enough, amongst the videos of people dancing on treadmills, people getting flung off treadmills and pets on treadmills were virtual walk videos.
Tonight I took my tablet up to the treadmill, turned on an audiobook and started one of the videos. Surprisingly enough it worked better than anything else. I mean the treadmill still sucks, but I listened to a good book and took a walk around a lake!
