Every day, it is getting easier for me to make better food choices and getting harder for me to force myself to exercise. I have my breakfasts down pat. 3 choices that I can quickly bag up, make or heat at work and eat at my desk, two of the meals are around 330 calories and the other is 420 calories. All three easily keep me full until lunch. Lunch has been 16 ounces of soup, a salad and a roll. I get the soups frozen from a local deli and they have a huge variety so nothing gets old. My lunch keeps me full until dinner. I even passed up free pizza (office carrion) the other day and that just doesn't happen! My dinners are varied and generally healthy. I have enough calories left over for a bowl of cereal at night. The only other things I might eat at night are either a small handful of pretzels, a piece of cheese or some nuts. Or a pickle, I love dill pickles!
I'm finding it harder and harder to exercise though and I don't know why. My nephew has been exercising with his mother and or friends - they are in some kind of Biggest Loser type contest with $10k on the line so they are pushing each other - and hasn't been coming up to the house. He gave me 2 solid months and I really thought that would be enough to keep me going but this week sucked! Monday I wasn't feeling well, so skipped exercise. That happens, fine. Tuesday I walked on the treadmill. Wednesday I had a hair appointment and I didn't want to get all sweaty and have to shower before the appointment and it was too late after. Thursday, I was just a slug and sat on the sofa.
That's my problem. I get home, eat dinner and start to relax and then I don't want to get back up. It's one of the reasons that morning exercise worked so well for me. Once I got up and got in the shower, I drove to the gym and got it out of the way. If I got into the shower, I knew I would carry through with going to the gym and once at the gym, I might as well exercise.
So I am taking some additional steps to help me improve. First, I am going to exercise tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. I have to. Second, I am going to set my alarm to go off 10 minutes earlier each week until I can get up at 5 AM. Once I start getting up at 5 AM I am going to start exercising at home in the mornings. If, after a month, I am not consistently working out at home, I am going to join the gym at work. In the mean time I will keep trying to work out in the evenings. I'm also hoping it will get easier to get motivated as it gets warmer and the days get longer.
What I won't do is give up. After all, I just punched a new hole in my belt and don't want to have to fill it in!
