Challenging two weeks.

This has been a challenging couple of weeks for me.  My birthday was last week, and we had a small celebration with family a couple days before, just a couple munchies and DQ ice cream cake.  It wasn't too bad and I managed to stay under my calorie goal.  Then on my actual birthday, I treated myself to breakfast at IHOP, but at the last minute I decided to be good and ordered a healthier option, turkey bacon, whole wheat pancakes topped with blueberries and 2 egg beaters.  However for dinner, I went all out.  I got a couple thick cut NY Strip steaks, a pound of large shrimp, corn on the cob, peppers, onions and mushrooms.  The shrimp and peppers, onions and mushrooms went on kabobs and then everything went on the grill.  It was an awesome dinner, but I did go over my calories.

In addition, I've gone out to dinner a couple times this week, and tried to pick healthy options, but with restaurants, I am never sure.  This seems especially true in Pittsburgh.  We have an older population and that's reflected in many of the restaurant menus.  Lots of fried foods, lots of pasta and fries on everything!  It's changing slowly though and I do see more lighter options, but it can be difficult.

Also, a coworker is retiring soon so my group is having a potluck farewell celebration for him.  It is basically 8 hours of buffet.  There will be cookies, cakes, bagels, dips, sandwiches, etc...  It is scheduled for tomorrow and I am determined to stay under my calories.  I don't know how, but I'm going to do it.  It may involve super-gluing my lips shut!

I allow myself to go over my goal 1 day a week.  I think it helps me keep my metabolism on track and is normally sufficient to cover special occasions.  However these 2 weeks have had about 6 special occasions...

Starting next Monday, things should be back to normal, so I'll just keep plowing on and make the best choices I can and try to keep my will-power up!  In the meantime, I lost another 1.6 lbs last week!

On January 2nd I weighed in at 370.6 pounds
On May 3rd I weighed in at 344.6 pounds
So far, that's 7.02%.
